Doctor Strange Teaser Trailer is Here!

Doctor-Strange-Logo-LightYesterday Marvel blessed us with our first real look at Doctor Strange. With all the hype over Captain America: Civil War, many forget that this movie could be a real eye-catcher with Benedict Cumberbatch in the leading role as Stephen Strange. But that’s enough for now. Just check out the trailer (and some cool new posters) if you haven’t already.

Though the PR train hasn’t hit full steam yet, some argue it doesn’t need to. Marvel may be a big enough name to carry this movie through at this point. No doubt they’re banking on that being a good thing for this film.Doctor-Strange-posters Doctor Strange isn’t exactly what you’d call a household name. Let’s hope that changes a bit after the Sorcerer Supreme comes to theaters on November 4, 2016.

Well it doesn’t get more hype than that. For those weren’t excited enough, I hope this did it for you. And for those who were… Well, hold on just a little bit longer when Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6, 2016.

Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is starting off well this year with Captain America: Civil War on May 6th and Doctor Strange on November 4th. Also, there have been reports going on with The Russo Brothers stating that the two part Avengers: The Infinity War movies might feature the entire character roster of the Marvel Universe shown on both television and movies so far.

That roster includes Black Panther, a super hero from the African fictional country of Wakanda, who’s abilities are like no other. Marvel announced that Ryan Coogler will be directing the film. Director credits of Coogler include Fruitvale Station and Creed, both have which been praised very highly.

Entire MCU Could Be On Display In ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

infinity-war-doppelgangers-avengers-infinity-war-could-be-a-bigger-deal-than-we-think-jpeg-193436

With Captain America Civil War on the horizon, it’s clear that we’ll be seeing our Marvel movies get bigger with even more reoccurring characters making cameo appearances as we inch closer to what will truly be a spectacle in Avengers Infinity War. There’s so many parts and so much to see there’s a chance that we could see every major character in some way appear in either one or both Infinity War movies. Up to 67 have already been confirmed with more on the way. One of the most interesting isn’t just a single character, but a cast of characters. One’s we like to call, the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Co-director for the film Joe Russo (CA: Winter Soldier, CA:Civil War) opened up about the project, but stayed mum on the prospect of having band of misfits play and extended role in the proceedings of Avengers: Infinity War.

“That is another one that we would have to reserve as a surprise, but we will say this: People will not be disappointed in the amount of characters in the movie. The concept of Infinity War is that the Marvel universe unites to battle the greatest threat to the world and universe that you’ve ever seen, and we’re going to honor that concept.”

What is more interesting is what Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn had to say. Seems as though he’s never been too keen on having a crossover happen when it comes to cameo appearances in his movie. He reassured everyone that the follow-up sequel to the surprise 2014 box-office success will not see Iron Man, Cap, or any of the other earth-bound heroes appear in the comic book inspired space opera.

Now just because Tony and the gang won’t be paying a visit to Peter Quill and his crew, that doesn’t mean that they won’t be exposed to the cosmic side of Marvel in due time. He also made a point to mention that although the two films that he and his brother/co-director Anthony Russo have worked on in CA: Winter Soldier and CA: Civil War have a more grounded theme, both Infinity War films will inevitably be of a different approach.

“I sat in the theater and watched Empire Strikes Back seven times in a row when I was a kid. Yeah, we’re science fiction fans as well, Dungeons and Dragons. We collected all the books when we were kids. We had figurines. Anything that you could think of that has to do with fantasy or sci-fi or superheroes was in our universe. We’re just going to approach the cosmic side with the same fervor that we did the earthbound work we’ve been doing. We also are going to work really hard to bring a psychological realism. We obviously can’t bring a naturalism to it because it doesn’t really exist outside of science fiction, but we can bring that psychological realism to it, to the characters, and that’s going to be our focus. Also, it’s going to be our focus to explore the cosmic side, applying the same rules that we like to apply to the last two films that we’ve done. It ends up being the rules of physics always apply or apply as much as we can get them to apply based on what we’re doing.”

It looks like the zenith of the MCU is in good hands with the Russo’s, And with all the characters that have been introduced and some new one’s still to come, they’re gonna try their hardest to make sure there’s a place for all of them. Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 hits theaters on May 4th, 2018, with Part 2 on its way May 3rd, 2019.

Daredevil Season Two Teaser!!!

daredevil-on-netflix

The Man without fear is coming back soon and it looks like there is nothing holding back the fans from seeing what is to come next. What started off as a grainy video leak from this weekend’s New York Comic-Con turned into a high quality full length teaser not even 24 hours after the initial leak. It’s all over and now it is here for your viewing pleasure.

True to the “teaser” moniker there’s not much to see, but still plenty to get excited over. The glimpses of some of the new cast of characters should serve well to entice people to tune in to the second season of what is already considered one of the best shows on Netflix and quite possibly the best live-action adaptation of any superhero. Although no one knows if the upcoming season will be enough to top the first, there is no doubt that the hype as already started so I guess it’s up to them to live up to it (I don’t think they’ll have any trouble with that).

Spider-Man Gets a Lead Actor, Director, and Release Date!

Peter-Parker

Fans don’t have to wait anymore, because the Spider-Man franchise has its new Peter Parker!

Spider-Man-Actor-Tom-Holland

Tom Holland will take on the task of being the Marvel and Sony Pictures Peter Parker/Spider-Man. While he will see plenty of screen-time in his own standalone movies, his debut will take place in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War. As relatively unknown actor, Holland made a name MV5BNzg2NjA5ODAyMV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwODAzMjkxNDE@._V1_UX214_CR0,0,214,317_AL_for himself in the independent movie entitled The Impossible. In a press release on the Marvel website Sony Pictures Producer Amy Pascal said of the 19-year-old actor that “we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world. With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Not to be left out of the news, the Spider-Man films will be headed by director Jon Watts whose credits also include independent films. His most recent being Cop Car, a film which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Marvel President Kevin Feige also spoke about Watts during the press release saying “As with James Gunn, Joss Whedon, and the Russo brothers, we love finding new and exciting voices to bring these characters to life. We spent a lot of time with Jon and find his take and work inspiring.”

Now, the only thing left is the release date. The first (again) installment of the Spider-Man franchise with make its way to theaters on July 28th, 2017 and as a bonus, it will be in both IMAX and 3D. Many are probably pretty confused as to why Marvel will not be at Hall H during San Diego Comic-Con to promote the upcoming slate of movies, especially with this news which comes pretty close to the convention date of July 9 2015. No matter as I’m sure they have their own promotion plans so fans should not worry. To read more regarding the casting head on over to Marvel.com and check out the full press release.

Avengers Age of Ultron: Dominating The World As We Know It

3988380-avengers-age-of-ultron-joss-whedon

This weekend finally saw the release of one of the years most anticipated movies in Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. It’s not a secret that this movie is gonna rake in the money and at this point the argument isn’t about whether the movie is good or not, but will it surpass its 2012 predecessor. No need to go any further, lets just jump right in.

Unlike the first movie, the team is already working together and have their hands full when they take on Ultron; a peace initiative designed by Tony Stark turned ruthless A.I. that’s hell-bent on human extinction. Ultron isn’t the only problem as the team has to deal with a pair of super-powered twins who seem to have their own agenda.

avengers_age_of_ultron_teamThe movie begins not unlike how the previous movie ended. The team is doing the “avengers” thing and it’s cool. It’s a good way to get people into the movie by giving them a piece of what made the first one so beloved. It doesn’t take long to move off the tracks a little bit because once all the fighting is over, it seems like we get thrown almost right away into the middle of the story without a proper set-up. It almost made the villain feel forced into the story and that’s not a good thing because it messes with the pacing of 1936dbdceaa4644169795e9c4f972d83the movie (don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt the quality of the movie itself but we’ll get to that later). It doesn’t help that if you blink you kind of miss the entire back story of two of the more important characters in Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Pietro (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) Maximoff. Also, there were some instances that saw plot points from the first movie being rehashed (and is even covertly mentioned by one of the characters) and keeps this movie from distinguishing itself from the former as a more original entity. Besides a couple other small scenes that seemed a bit unnecessary or could have been done better, the movie flows pretty seamlessly.

130119_ori

The biggest strength of the movie is in its character development and the dynamic relationships the heroes share. One of the best scenes in the movie involved the heroes… well… not actually being heroes for once. 130123_oriThe interactions between any combination of Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Steve Rodgers/Captain America (Chris Evans), and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) contained either humor, drama, or a mixture of both and were delivered admirably. Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Natasha Romanov/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) both share intimate scenes which accomplish the task of providing both exposition of who they are as people and depth to characters who were severely lacking it. Speaking of characters who severely lacked depth, there was definitely a concerted effort to make Clint Barton/Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) a more important character and it was done almost flawlessly. I won’t spend much time on him (because it would spoil it a bit) but, his character was a joy in the movie and was a crucial part in more ways than one. Even the cameos (none of which I will spoil) were great and made an impact on the movie outside of just taking up screen time.

If you didn’t think the heroes were the brightest spot of the movie, then it was because Ultron (James Spader) stole the show. Ultron is probably the most polished villain the cinematic universe has put on-screen. He was calculated, ruthless, but not without purpose and Spader was just about as good an actorcleaner-lead-age-of-ultron-trailer-leak-141022-665x385 as you could find to fill this role. While some may have found his mannerisms a bit too humanistic, I would remind them that this is a different story with different core aspects and therefore Ultron’s character reflects that quite a bit. By extension, the inclusion of Vision (Paul Bettany) was almost, if not, just as important and show stealing to me. The stark contrast in the characters and their ideals made for great moments at times in the more tense scenes. He really became one of my favorite characters by the time the whole thing was over.

9F5KAva55gWxAnd What would the movie be without a big action sequence, I mean c’mon, this is still an action movie right? Was it big? Yeah it was! Did it raise the stakes from the first movie? Definitely! It was what everyone was waiting for and did not disappoint. So much of the action was vivid, clean, and looked as if it were ripped right off the pages of a comic book. The tone was refreshingly different and It definitely brought the feeling of desperation among the heroes. Many of times there was a question of what was gonna happen next, because the tension mounted with every passing scene. Every character gets a piece of the action, but unlike the last time the end is a bit different.

130122_oriVerdict: This movie is everything you want in a blockbuster. It was fun, action packed, and felt like an event. I wish the Maximoff twins had been better utilized. It seemed as though there was a lot left out and considering the fact that the blu-ray will contain an extended version (three hours) and an alternate ending, we’ll see if it was for the best, but a longer run-time actually could have been beneficial. Also, the humor wears on you by the end of the film, but there is no denying that Joss Wheden knows how to handle a large cast of characters. Many had reservations because the cast seemed so large, but this movie handles a large cast better than any movie I have seen. Even with that, Everyone who plays a role in the movie and  the cinematic universe at large seem genuinely excited to be apart of what is happening and you can see how comfortable they have all come to be in their roles. As someone who will continue to watch the cinematic universe grow, that is what I am happiest to see. I am ready to see Whedon move on though as I feel we’ve reached the limit of what to expect from his style. The Russo’s were effective in creating a great story for Captain America: The Winter Soldier and I think their direction is one well worth taking.

Avengers: Age of Ultron gets a 4 out of 5

+ Great chemistry among the entire cast

+ Action scenes were second to none

+ The slight change in tone works well throughout and especially in the climax

+ Ultron… nuff said

– Could have been paced better

– Just needed more scenes with the twins (because they were pretty good when they were there)

Avengers: Age of Ultron is in theaters now.

Marvel’s AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Movies Finally Have Directors!

Infinity-Wars-04

Well, It’s official. Marvel finally put the word out that the one’s to take on their Infinity War films will be Anthony and Joe Russo. Pretty straight-forward press release, but you can read a part of it below.

As anticipation and excitement build to a fever pitch for Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the blockbuster sequel to the third-largest movie of all time, Marvel is proud to announce Joe and Anthony Russo will join the franchise as the directors of Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1” and “Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2.”

If you don’t know these guys, you do know of one of their most successful films in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. A film that was one of the highest grossing films in 2014 and is considered by many to be Marvel’s best movie to date. In addition, they are also the currently at the helm for next year’s follow-up film Captain America: Civil War.

These talks have been going on for quite some time with whispers as recent as two weeks ago that the deal had been sealed. It is only now that there is some confirmation amid all the rumors. Filming has just begun for Captain America: Civil War so don’t expect to see anything regarding the two-part film for some time.

Captain America: Civil War is headed to theaters on May 6, 2016 while Avengers: Infinity War, Part 1 is schedule to release May 4, 2018 with the second to be expected almost one year later on May 3, 2019.

First Official Look At Ryan Reynolds As Deadpool

117349

Seems like there is more and more coming out for comic book movies and the studios behind them want to share almost every little thing with their fans. First it was Warner Bros and DC with a first look at Jessie Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor, and today it’s Fox and Marvel’s turn with Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.

CBHaEuLVIAAj5Lz

The self-proclaimed “Merc With a Mouth”lays out in this photo in true Deadpool fashion.

Still can’t believe the film is on its way (and in less than a year no less) because of so many setbacks. The more that comes out about the film, the more real it becomes and with such a fan following, it’s sure to bring in some good numbers. Let’s just hope the movie itself doesn’t disappoint.

Get your fill of Deadpool when it hits theaters on February 12, 2016.
