There’s a Shop for Zombies?

Reiko the Zombie Shop

Terror has struck the sleepy little town of Shiraike. A serial killer stalks the streets murdering innocent girls. Twenty-nine grisly murders have been committed with no clues to catch the killer, that is until the town receives a strange visitor: a beautiful young woman who can raise the dead. She is Reiko the Zombie Shop, necromancer for hire. For a price, she’ll wake your dead, if only to find a clue to their demise. Despite being able to reanimate the dead, she is not responsible for what the dead will say or do once they awaken!

When I first saw the cover, I was thrown off a bit, but decided to give it a chance thinking it was probably good and about some awesome chick fighting zombies, but it wasn’t. This manga is basically about figuring out who killed who and psychotic serial killers. Did I mention that they also summon zombies to fight? It’s like something straight out of Yu-Gi-Oh?! (awesome show by the way… well the original anyway)

2888-1-6_PLDSY-Reiko the Zombie Shop v1 p 0092At the end of volume one, the main character (and the only important one) dies in a non-exciting battle and the only thing going through my mind was, “That’s it? Really?”  I could not read anymore after that, until I found out the series continued! I took a peek thinking maybe it’ll get better. Saw two high school students summoning zombies to fight… NOPE!

Verdict: I was so disappointed that I could not finish the series. So to make it short and not waste anymore of your time.

Reiko the Zombie Shop gets a 2 out of 5

– Killers who summon zombies to fight (no thank you)

– Misleading as a mystery manga with zombies

– Main character dies early in anti-climactic fashion

+ Interesting synopsis and concept (that was ruined almost immediately, but still pretty good)

What Would You Do if You Were the Last Human Being on Earth?

the-last-man-earth-nouvelle-bande-annonce_coverProducer Will Forte (Nebraska, Saturday Night Live) and directors/producers Chris Miller and Phil Lord (The Lego Movie,  21 Jump Street), brings you The Last  Man on Earth; a new comedy that will make you laugh your socks off.

wp_ss_20150307_0009[1]It’s the year 2020, and a deadly virus has swept the planet. Only one man is left on earth and his name is Phil Miller (Will Forte). He used to be an average guy with an average life. Now, in his RV, Phil searches the country for other survivors. He has traveled to every city, town and outpost in the US, Mexico and Canada, and has found no one. As he returns to his hometown of Tucson, Phil comes to the painful realization that he is almost certainly the last living being on the face of the earth. All he wants is for someone – anyone – to find him in Tucson – preferably a woman.

He got his wish, but not the one he really wanted. Carol (Kirsten Shaal) is the last woman on earth and she refuses to “act like an animal”.  She’s crazy uptight and Phil wishes to get rid of her. I found it quite hilarious how she gets on him about everything! The law and repopulating the earth. But before that, he must marry her… yes she’s serious. She wants him to get down on one knee and propose to her. This show has so much comedy, literally I’m laughing at this very moment while typing this.

wp_ss_20150307_0006[1]Verdict: In my opinion, Will Forte and Kirsten Shaal is perfect for these roles and work great with each other. They just bring comedy to a whole new level. This show is both interesting to watch and entertaining.

Last Man on Earth gets a 5 out of 5

+ Will Forte and Kirsten Shaal have great chemistry together

+ Has a high level of humor

+ Even with the humor it manages to be an intriguing watch

Last Man on Earth airs Sunday’s 9:30 PM Eastern/10:30 PM Central on Fox

Toy Story Returns and It’s a Romantic Comedy

-553f37ec-3caf-4c6d-b1de-65591e7eeceaBack in November Disney announced a fourth film in the Toy Story series.

It was revealed that the next film would not continue the previous trilogy, instead it will be pitched as a romantic comedy.

Pixar President Jim Morris shared that the new movie would be a love story, and would not focus on the relationship between the children and the toys. He wants to focus more on the toys themselves. The story was thought up by the original toy story writing team. They simply had an irresistible idea.

Toy Story 4 is set to be released June 16, 2017

Magical Girl’s are Creepy, Scary, and INSANE!!

images (2)When you think magical girls, you think of colorful dresses, sparkles, and friendship. Mahou Shoujo of the End will change your way of thinking.

High-schooler Kii Kogami is stuck in a rut, loathing the monotonous doldrums of his everyday life. If only something amazing would happen. But be careful what you wish for…images (1)

Kii gets his wish, but more than he can imagine and not in a good way. When a little girl in goth-style lolita attire appears at his school things really begin to get crazy. She starts to gruesomely batter, dismember, and mutilate all who cross her path. She does all of this while chanting the mantra “Magical”. It is then that the school devolves into a state of bloody chaos. Will Kii escape from this murderous girl?

To make matters worse, the magical girls victims reanimate and joins the killer rampage. Almost like zombies… magical zombies. Did I mention they also say “Magical” too?q022

Another zombie apocalypse manga but with psycho magical girls who’s outimg000018 for your blood. At first this caught me off guard but as I read further in, I realized that this manga is no different from the other apocalypse manga. You have your usual big busted girls, scrawny protagonist, damsel in distress (who turns out to be a yandere), hormonal crazy guy, and a tsundere girl (who always falls for the main character).

Kentaro Sato’s concept is very intriguing, I mean who would’ve thought magical girls can be so deadly and a down right living nightmare. Not me! The art style just makes them more terrifying. I’m not too big a fan of how some of the characters feet look too small (looks kinda weird), then again what artist don’t have trouble with feet? But this could be a part of Sato’s unique art style. Art Style: ⅘

Verdict: There’s not much detail I could give about the manga because it’s still going on (so I can’t give a solid rating on the story), but all I could say that this is an interesting read and you should definitely add this to your list of manga. That is, if you like gore, psychopaths, ecchi, and horror.

No Score (Yet)

+ Interesting concept pairing magic with horror and gore

+ Solid art-style

– Still has the same common tropes for these types of manga

My Love Story: A Unique Twist On A Classic

Kazune Kawahara says anyone can find love.

Takeo Goda is a giant guy with a giant heart. But it seems the ladies only have eyes for his good-looking best friend, Sunakawa. Use to being on the sidelines, Takeo simply stands tall and accepts his fate of being forever alone… in the romance department that is. However, that all changes when he saves a girl named Yamato from a harasser on the train. It is in that moment that his love life takes an incredible turn. Takeo can hardly believe his luck! But with his best friend Sunakawa around, does Takeo even stand a chance?

a9thejJLadies, don’t judge a book by its cover. This manga is cute, funny, heartwarming, and is hard to put down. When you think shojo manga, you think of a typical male with a charming personality. This manga actually goes outside of that. Takeo is a big (and I mean big), strong teenager with a sweet, caring personality (albeit, a bit dense). He loves helping out his friends, family, and random strangers when they need help and he’s looking for love.

Yamato is not your average teen that falls head over heels for thtumblr_ngymq7KN331sgb6xqo1_500e first cute guy she sees. No, rather she is an adorable girl who loves to bake sweets, especially for Takeo. After he saved her from a harasser on the train, Yamato had fallen in love with him. Love at first sight is a beautiful thing and she spends most of the first issue trying to show Takeo that she wants to be with him. Unfortunately, he is too dense to see that. Can’t really blame him though. Throughout his life all his love interests had fallen for his best friend, Sunakawa.

31Now don’t get the wrong idea. Takeo and Sunakawa’s friendships is really strong. Sunakawa has always looked out for him. Even though he seems to be a cold person that doesn’t really care for anything but studying, he really cares for Takeo. It is the reason why he always helps him out when Takeo needs advice. Even when Takeo doesn’t need help, Sunakawa is always there for him. It just shows how strong their friendship is after knowing each other for 10 years.

I love how this story tells us that not all hot guys are the protagonist and get the cute girl. Nice guys who may not be picture perfect get a chance too. To me the art fits just fine with the story. Honestly, it did throw me off the first time because it was different but in the end I had come to love it. I highly recommend this as a read especially if you’re looking for a quick reading. Now it’s still early in the manga with only three volumes available, so lets follow Takeo and Yamato’s relationship as it slowly develops throughout the series.

My Love Story gets a 5 out of 5

+ More original take on shojo manga

+ Great theme of friendship between Takeo and Sunakawa

+ More relatable narrative on aspects of love and attraction

But that’s not all! My Love Story is now an anime and will be released this spring in April. Hope you guys are as excited as I am.

My Top Ten

Good bye 2014 and hello 2015!!!

A lot has happened in 2014, meaning a lot of good movies, shows, and games. My top 10 list for 2014 wasn’t very big, especially for video games. Even though I missed a lot, I did see a few good movies that I really enjoyed.

At Number Ten – The Hunger Games: Mocking-jay part 1: It was a long awaited movie that I was very excited to see and honestly I was kinda disappointed in this film. It did not catch me as much as the first two movies. Plot was okay though. Maybe more action and less crying?

Number Nine – Transcendence: I’m a huge fan of Johnny Depp and there was not one film where he disappointed me at all. This movie did get a few dislikes but come on people, having your mind transferred into a supercomputer is kinda cool. Especially how he controlled people and healed them with his technology stuff.

Number Eight – Into the Storm: I’m a big sucker for storm movies. This movie actually surprised me and made me laugh because of two wannabe drunk storm chasers. In the beginning you would think they would die because they were drunk and down right stupid. But no they don’t, they actually survive even after getting sucked into a tornado and getting thrown across a big field.

Number Seven – X-Men: Days of Future Past: All I can say is that this film has put all of the other x-men to shame. It was both really good and filled with action.

Number Six – The Lego Movie: HILARIOUS AND VERY GOOD.

Number Five – No Good Deed: Idris Elba is one heck of a charming killer. He just walks up to some woman’s house and terrorizes her and her kids. But he messed with the wrong mother, instead of being helpless she fights back. But she wouldn’t have to go through all of that if her husband didn’t have an affair with the killers wife in the first place. I was so happy she punched her husband in the face and walked away like a boss, dude deserved it after what he put his family through. Don’t cheat people.

Number Four – Top Five: A movie about how Chris Rock or shall I say Andre Allen, tries to get back to his comedy roots. This was really rated R due to some scenes, but this movie was flat out funny from the beginning to the end.

Number Three – Godzilla: Another long awaited film by many fans and me. This movie did not disappoint me one bit. I mean they could have given Godzilla more screen time but I was satisfied in the end.

Number Two – The Maze Runner: Great movie, this film had me on the edge of my seat from the very start. I can not wait until movie 2. Did I also mention that this movie is a book series? Of course you knew that already.

Number One – Don’t Starve Together: Now this game is basically, don’t starve but instead you can play with your friends and don’t starve together… Anyway this was honestly my only game for 2014 because it’s fun and I love playing with my friends.

I hope you all had a wonderful 2014 and I hope got to watch some great movies and play some awesome games. If you didn’t you still can this year, now its time to make the best of 2015.

The Pyramid

wp_ss_20141217_0014[2]The Pyramid
. A team of archaeologists discovers a unique pyramid that has been buried beneath the Egyptian desert. Searching the pyramid’s depths, they become hopelessly lost in its dark and endless catacombs. Scared and desperate to find a way out, they come to realize they aren’t just trapped, they are being hunted. With a promising preview, I thought this movie would scare me and be pretty good but the movie did not meet my expectations.

This movie is no where near scary, just a few jump scares here and there. From this point on there will be spoilers. So if you plan to see the movie, don’t read this… actually please do. Trust me, I’m helping you save your money.

Movie starts off with the typical group of archaeologists, scientists, and reporters digging up things that would kill them in the end. After opening the pyramid someone dies thus, causing riots in Egypt. They were forced to shut down and go home but no, one of the archaeologists had to keep complaining and crying to go into the cave. Like seriously? Someone died after opening the entrance.

Not allowed to go in because of the toxic fumes (and they were told to leave the premise), they decided to send a NASA robot in to check it out. Now keep in mind the tech guy said that the bot is worth 1 milwp_ss_20141217_0008[1]lion dollars. But guess what? They lost the robot and went in to get it. In my opinion, I would not go in to get that thing, I don’t care how much it cost, its not worth my life. Anyway, they get lost and and try to find a way out only to fall deeper into the pyramid (it’s surprising they survived with no injuries). And let’s not forget the huge rock that fell on a guys leg that looked like it crushed him completely, which I find weird. And another thing that didn’t sit well with me; how does a red flare hurt the creature but a bullet doesn’t?

Really, can you even tell what’s going on here?

Verdict: The movie was not only rushed, it was poorly lit. Even the characters were terrible. They just didn’t catch me at all. I can rant on and on how terrible this movie was but I’m not, I honestly felt that the only good parts were the history, the pyramid, and Anubis. That’s right, Anubis was in the movie and looking scary. If you want to see this movie, I recommend you wait until they show it on TV.

The Pyramid gets a 3 out of 5

+ Anubis was the brightest spots of the movie

+ The history on the pyramid and the pyramid itself was pretty good

– Bad characters with really questionable actions

– Seemingly rushed production with aspects like bad lighting

The Pyramid is in theaters now (but you don’t need to see it)

Apocalypse no Toride

image_large_52fc972b685a0_cov_fortress_of_apocalypse_1-1Apocalypse no Toride (also known as Fort of Apocalypse), that’s right its a manga about zombies. Right now you’re probably thinking (sarcastically) oh wow, another zombie manga. Well, let me tell you my friend you are in for a surprise. Apocalypse no Toride is about a group of teenagers, who are inmates, surviving the zombie apocalypse and no not like High school of the Dead, so don’t expect any type ecchi. This manga is legitimately about surviving, friendships (in my opinion), and saving the world (but can it be saved?). Oh and did I mention psychopaths?

Apocalypse no Toride is intense, bloody, and gruesome. Even though the d014story may seem dull and the same as others, I feel that it’s still a good read because in its own way it’s different than the others. Now the art is fantastic. Inabe Kazu had actually focused on drawing the gruesome, grotesque, and monstrous beast. There’s really no huge boobs or other ecchi stuff all over the page (good job Inabe). Like seriously, there are hardly any females in this manga except that one lady.

Anyway, time for a quick summary Maeda has been falsely accused of murder and detained along with delinquents from all over the Kanto region in the juvenile correctional facility. Maeda is a typical boy (and a bit of a sissy… far, I feel that he has potential for growth later in the series) so when he finds himself living in this violence-ridden prison, he can’t think of anything worse. Suddenly, a prison van crashes into the facility and what shambles out of the wreckage are flesh-eating zombies.

Apocalypse no Toride overall is very good. If you love horror and zombies and are into great art contributing to what’s already a solid story then I would totally recommend this as a solid read.

Apocalypse no Toride gets a 4 out of 5

+ Very unique and original story

+ Stunning art

+ No ecchi type images

I Can’t Understand What My Husband Is Saying Review

I Can’t Understand What My Husband Is Saying

I Can’t Understand What My Husband Is Saying (also known as Danna ga Nani o Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken). This Comedy, Seinen, and Slice of Life follows the daily lives of Kaoru, a hard-working office women who’s passionate about her job and her husband Hajime, a dedicated otaku who lives a shut-in lifestyle, whose only friends are his blog followers. Kaoru worries about her husband from time to time, but they seem to get along just fine.

9e8027f658fcc763ae7c07880b9aa5711410914622_fullWhat can I say about this three minute anime? It’s absolutely hilarious! I give this anime it’s props for having the two main characters as a married couple and you don’t see that in a lot of anime. The show’s focus is unique on how the couple gets along even though they are two different people.

799472-cant_3For this type of show, I feel that the animation is perfect. The story also fits its time length perfectly and brings you the feeling of wanting more.

Verdict: I Can’t Understand What My Husband Is Sayings is fun, witty, and cheerful. So if you’re looking for a good short anime that will make you laugh out loud, then I highly recommend this one.

I Can’t Understand What My Husband Is Saying gets a 5 out of 5

+ Good use of storytelling for its runtime

+ Original approach to a Slice of Life style anime

+ Well… It’s hilarious
